Analyzing video information with Pentaho: Alexander Keidel

Video is the most under-utilized source of data today. Videos can serve as an important data source for improving security in the public and for optimizing city infrastructure. Hitachi has a powerful solution to analyze video data with Pentaho. However, there is an essential part missing…

Alex, who are you?
I’m currently living in Fulda and work around 10 minutes away at it novum. For the last three years I have been working as Solution Architect in the Big Data Analytics department. Before that I was a researcher for HPC and cloud computing at the University of Göttingen.

What connects you to Pentaho?
I´ve been using Pentaho for 3 years now and I really like the open source idea. Its flexible architecture allows to extend and tailor it even to use cases that don’t come to your mind in the first place. But what makes Pentaho really great is the community supporting it!

What will your talk be about?
My talk will be about analyzing video data with Pentaho. This sounds like a bit odd but when you look around you can see a camera in almost every corner collecting data that is never blended or utilized. Since we all know that there is no better tool for data blending than Pentaho Data Integration we found a way to analyze information coming from cameras with PDI.

You can only profit from video data if you interpret it correctly. Correctly means analyzing and combining it with data from third-party systems. Using Pentaho Data Integration and Hitachi Vantara Analytics, you can blend information from videos with data from other sources, f.e. to automatically trigger predefined actions based on the analysis’ results. If you want to know how we did it come and join my talk or have a chat with me at PCM!

What do you expect from Pentaho Community Meeting?
First of all, I expect to have a lot of fun meeting the community to share ideas and insights in how to use Pentaho (even if some of them are a little crazy :)) This of course works best with a beer or two!
