Als Experte für große Projekte mit der Big Data-Plattform von Pentaho wird Wael auf dem Pentaho User Meeting im März einen Impulsvortrag zu IoT Analytics und Realtime-Datenauswertung bei Zugsensoren halten. Ich habe mich im Vorfeld mit Wael über seinen Beitrag und seine geänderte Rolle bei Hitachi Vantara unterhalten.
Wael, how has your role changed in the new Hitachi Vantara context?
I’m doing many of the same things, just more so! Having the strength, stability, and resources of Hitachi Vantara allows me to be more innovative… closer to the cutting, sometimes bleeding edge. On a personal level, there’s more structure which can sometimes create frustration but often means I know exactly where things stand, what has been accomplished, and in what direction we’re moving.
What does the merge of Pentaho in the HV ecosystem mean?
I think of the new Hitachi Vantara organization as a natural next step rather than a dramatic course correction. It has been nearly 3 years since Pentaho was acquired by Hitachi Data Systems, during which both organisations have evolved. I like to think of HV as a multi-billion dollar start-up complete with thousands of customers and the collected knowledge of the broader Hitachi organisation.
Why do you combine the buzzwords IoT and Big Data with research and development and innovation?
IoT and Big Data are infrastructure, scaffolding, they’re a means to an end. IoT provides the raw information and big data systems provide the scalable compute APIs that allow us to learn from that information (often using another buzzword, machine learning). R&D really breaks down into two areas – exploration of the unknown and improvement of existing systems. As an engineer and machine learning practitioner, I do a little bit of each.
